    Notes The count was conducted from the western side of the vlei as landowner permission was granted by Mr. Zietsmann prior to the count. Five teams of two were divided up along the vlei each with a spotting scope. Results could have been better if we had a team along the eastern side of the vlei as well, so we might have missed a few species on that side as the vlei is rather wide. The Fish Eagle sightings could be an over-estimate as the total for this species tallied to 5 so I therefore took the count to be 2 as the birds were flying over. Numerous unidentified waders were observed due to the vlei being too wide to observe accurately all the way across. Red-knobbed coots were estimated by my group (Carlo, Allistair and Wayne) to be about 2500 on our side of the vlei.
