Notes Large areas of the lake are exposed due to low water levels. The lake is divided into discrete compartments: Narrows, Makakatana, Catalina Bay, Dead Tree Bay, Fanies Island Channel, and North Lake (Tewate, Sengwane, and False Bay are all still connected). Selley’s Lakes is dry. The orange colour of the water, due to the cyanobacteria bloom, is very noticeable where salinity is high. The higher the salinity, the more coloured the water. There is no visible flow coming in via the Mkhuze Mouth – but the vegetation indicates that there must be a little freshwater seepage from the swamps. The Mzinene Delta area is dry – with no birds
