Brief_description
Mida Creek is 32 sq kms of open water, sand flats and mangrove forest. It is a Marine Reserve and a Forest Reserve under the Kenya Wildlife Service and Kenya Forest Service. The actual area counted regularly is the inland section of mainly open sand flats which is the area where c.80% of waterbirds forage at low tide and on a neap high tide c.90% roost together not far from the constructed bird hide.
Physical_features
Deep water channel down the centre of the creek with extensive sand flats particularly on the inland side of the creek; the whole creek is surrounded by mangrove forest. The mouth of the creek is only c.500m wide and is just inside the Watamu Marine

Mida Creek is flooded twice a day by the tide through the mouth. There are no streams or freshwater channels entering the creek. However there is significant underground seepage of freshwater from Arabuko-Sokoke Forest to the west which reduces the e

The mangrove forests have a very high productivity level and the creek is important as a breeding site for fish as well as feeding area for juvenile sea turtles (mainly Green Turtle). It is an Important Bird Area particularly for Lesser Sand Plovers
